Economics

Water belongs to all in Siskiyou County to enjoy and use. Water is used in homes and businesses, for farming, ranching and industry. The water is discharged back to local groundwater and streams. When water is exported it does not find its way back into a local water system.

Different water uses have different impacts. Taking water away from Siskiyou County will have an impact. We owe it to all county residents to understand the impacts of removing water on our existing economy, like ranching, outdoor recreation and our growing tourism industry.”

The McCloud Watershed Council commissioned ECONorthwest, a Eugene, Oregon-based firm with 30 years experience specializing in economic and financial analysis of public policy to analyze the costs and benefits of the proposed Nestle bottling plant. The report shows the price for water under the current contractual agreement between Nestlé and the McCloud Community Services District is far below market value and that the new plant is unlikely to create a significant net gain of long-term, permanent jobs for McCloud residents.
